Looking For A Job? Long gone are the days of checking the newspapers’ classified ads when job hunting. Because jobs are now mostly found on job listing websites, and because of the sheer number of these sites, it can be challenging to find job openings that are relative to your experience and skillset. Enter an employment recruiter. Recruiters work with companies to identify the best candidates for open positions. Their methods of finding those candidates may include job fairs, networking events, and online search engines like the one found on LinkedIn. • Update your LinkedIn.com profile. Don’t have a LinkedIn profile? Create one. Most recruiters use it as one of their best tools. You will want to ensure your resume is current, too. • You can also search for recruiters online. Sometimes, if you know a company you’re interested in, their website job postings will have their recruiter’s contact info. • Find job fairs near you. An in-person event can be like a mini-interview with recruiters. Search online for events near you, or contact your local unemployment office, career center, or workforce development office. • Identify what sets you apart from other candidates. Do you have a specialized degree or certification? Have you won awards for your work? Make sure to highlight these points. • Do some research. Finding a recruiter specific to your industry is as easy as adding “recruiter” to your desired job or company, or even location, in the search bar on LinkedIn. For example, ‘ IT recruiter. ’ • Ask to connect. Keep your message short and sweet, but do include what position you’re seeking, along with your current work situation. • Follow up . Once you’re connected, send a follow -up message and attach your resume to keep the conversation going. Here are some tips on reaching out to a recruiter to catapult yourself to the top of the list of candidates.

Prep Your Kids For A Summer Of Fun

Summer’s here, and it’s time for your kids to get outside and, well, be kids. While we adults look at exercise as a must-do to keep ourselves healthy, kids don’t even think about exercising as they’re playing with their friends, riding bikes, playing soccer, or swimming in the lake. It’s not only the physical benefits kids enjoy when they’re playing, but mental, too. Not only will they develop stronger bones and muscles and reduce their risks of becoming overweight and developing type 2 diabetes, being physically active helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and even gives them a brighter outlook on life. If you’re signing your kids up to play sports this summer, or if you have a summer filled with outdoor family activities planned, keep these tips in mind to be sure they stay safe and healthy to make the most of their school break. • Get A Sports Physical . Even if she isn’t playing organized sports, a sports physical will help identify any issues that could impact her summer fun. For example, if she suffers from asthma, your doctor could alter her medicine for more running, jumping and playing. • Wear A Helmet. Whether riding a bike, scooter, skateboard, make sure your child is always wearing a helmet, and that it fits correctly. • Apply Sunscreen . There’s nothing worse than having to miss out on the fun due to a sunburn. Be sure your kids are lathered up before they head out to play, and reapply often. • Stay Hydrated . Children’s bodies don’t cool down as quickly as adults, so it’s important that they’re staying hydrated, especially during the hot summer months. The Reasons Behind Dry Skin May Surprise You If you suffer from dry skin, you aren’t alone. In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology Association says that nearly everyone experiences dry skin by the time they turn 60 years old. And the causes behind dry skin are as varied as the people, ranging from genetics, medications and medical conditions, to the type of water we use, the air we breathe and our bathing habits. For example, if you have diabetes, psoriasis, eczema, or take acne medications or retinol, you may find your skin to be dry and even itchy. Likewise, enjoying long, hot showers, washing your hands often, or living in a climate with low humidity and/or cold temperatures may result in dry skin. A vitamin or mineral deficiency could be a cause, too. Even the types of soaps we use can be agents of dry skin: many are made to remove oil, which can suck moisture from the skin. If you have dry skin, be sure keep baths or showers to 10 minutes or less; cover up as much as possible in harsh weather conditions; drink noncaffeinated drinks throughout the day; and apply a moisturizer within one minute of getting out of the bath or shower as moisturizers work best on damp skin. Check with your doctor, too – a blood test may help identify vitamin deficiencies. Here, some tips to do just that. After removing the screens, gently vacuum to remove loose dirt and debris.
